Label Origin
Iron Sound Records was formed in 2016. The founding member had been active on the Reggae scene since the late 1980s; previously managing other labels including:- Reggae Retro Records, Next Step, Top Beat and was also an integral part of Martin Campbell's musical adventures (Channel One UK) for the better part of 20 years.
Alien Dread came on the scene in the late 1990s and was introduced to ISR in 2000 by longtime friend and supporter, Beardfreak (Cold Clarity). Alien Dread (Andrew Passey) initially lived in Birmingham (UK) and spent many years in Handsworth and surrounding areas; hooking up with DJ & producer, King Melody (Lumba), who along with a host of other influences in the world of Reggae, inspired Andy to start his own studio.
Iron Sound Records was intended as an outlet for Alien Dread productions, but swiftly expanded to embrace other artists; transforming into an umbrella label with Andy primarily at the mixing desk for projects.
Artists & Partnerships
At that time we also had two other partners who have now sadly passed, Charlie Reggae and Colin Moore; both integral parts of the ISR story.
The releases to date feature, amongst others - Alvin Davis, Asha B, Steven Wright, Monkey Jhayam, Peter Lewis, Kendrick Andy, The Blackstones, Frank Luz, Amanda J Christos, Frenchie King and Johnny Jubilee.
There are occasional singles produced (in part) by Gadd59 Music Productions. Gadd59 also help with online promotion and have been a musical partner for many years.
Production Philosophy
Our primary focus is the production of authentic Rocksteady, Ska & Reggae sounds, using a combination of traditional analogue equipment, combined with virtual studio tech in an ever-evolving studio set-up. We also work with session musicians and occasional input from other producers.
Today
Aside from physical media, our music is now available through most digital vendors and streaming services. We also showcase new material digitally online, before mainstream distribution.
